What is the FEFCO code?

Posted: 5 September 2022

FEFCO is the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers, or in French Fédération Européenne des Fabricants de Carton Ondule. The FEFCO code is an internationally applied system for packaging design. It was designed by FEFCO in the 1960s to simplify the description of packaging construction and to establish a common base for communication between customers and suppliers all over the world.

There are around 200 different FEFCO codes in total to describe the most common design shapes in corrugated cardboard packaging. A mailer box for instance has the code FEFCO 0427, a shipping box is described by FEFCO 0201. Since there are always new developments in the packaging industry, the code is continuously developing and new editions are published. The newest is the 12th edition and it can be found here.
